I was trying to update BIOS 2.9.0 but I can not update BIOS. I get that you can not update the BIOS because the service system is disabled. Anybody have any idea what happened?

Hi,
If you are attempting to update the BIOS on a Dell PowerEdge T420 server and encounter an error stating that the service system is disabled, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some potential explanations:
BIOS Write Protection: Some servers have a hardware write-protection mechanism that prevents unauthorized modifications to the BIOS. If this protection is enabled, it will prevent you from updating the BIOS. Check if your server has such a feature and whether it is enabled.
System Management Settings: Dell PowerEdge servers have a dedicated management controller (e.g., iDRAC) that provides remote access and monitoring capabilities. If the management settings are misconfigured or the management controller is experiencing issues, it may interfere with the BIOS update process.
Security Settings: Some BIOS settings or management controller settings can affect the update process. Check the security settings in the BIOS menu and the management controller interface to ensure they are not preventing BIOS updates.
System Health: If there is an issue with the server's hardware components, it might be preventing the BIOS update. Make sure your server is in good working condition before attempting the update.
Incorrect BIOS Update Utility: Double-check that you are using the correct BIOS update utility for your specific server model and that you downloaded it from the official Dell website.
Firmware Corruption: If there was an issue during a previous BIOS update attempt, the firmware might have become corrupted, leading to the current problem. In such cases, you might need to contact Dell Support for assistance.
To address the issue, you can try the following steps:
Verify that you are using the correct BIOS update utility for your Dell PowerEdge T420 server model.
Restart the server and access the BIOS settings during boot (usually by pressing F2 or another designated key). Check for any write protection settings that could be causing the issue.
If your server has a dedicated management controller (e.g., iDRAC), ensure that it is functioning correctly and that you have the necessary permissions to update the BIOS.
Ensure that your server is connected to a reliable power source during the update process.
If you have exhausted all troubleshooting steps and still cannot update the BIOS, it's best to contact Dell Support or consult their community forums for further assistance. They may provide specific guidance based on your server model and the error message you encounter.
Remember that updating the BIOS on a server is a critical process, and any errors during the update can have serious consequences. Proceed with caution and follow Dell's official instructions for BIOS updates on your specific server model.
