Shared BMC/host interface on C6320 puts BMC speed at 100
Hi,
We are moving our BMC network from the Dedicated NIC to shared LOM1 on C6320 nodes. The host and BMC networks are on separate VLANs. Everything works fine after the change, except that the BMC interface negotiates its speed as 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps. The host interface is correct at 1Gbps. Auto-negotiation is enabled, thus the speed cannot be changed manually.
We have a similar set-up on C6420 servers, where the speed is 10G on both the BMC interface and the host interface when they are shared.
Firmware versions:
BIOS - 2.16.0
iDRAC - 2.81.81.81
x520 LOM - 16.5.0
We'd prefer not to update any of the firmware as it seems to corrupt the iDRAC lately, and rendering the server unusable.
The servers are plugged into Dell S3048-ON switches.
My question is, is this the correct behavior? This article seems to suggest it's iDRAC 8 functionality.
Thanks

Hello Frantisek,
I think the best place to start is with the firmware.
Version 18.0.17 had a fix for problem with Intel(R) Ethernet 10G 2P X550-t Adapter intermittently linking at 1G instead of 10G when connected to Dell Force10 S4820T 10GBase-T Network Switch.
This sounds similar and may fix the issue.
I would recommend start with the NIC and step it up then check results.
NOTE: FW updates require update to the corresponding family version of the drivers, and vice versa.
x520 LOM - you have version 16.5.0. This version seems to be from 2015.
NIC updates:
First do (firmware v. 18.0.17) : https://dell.to/3sOMshY
Driver v. 18.0.0
https://dell.to/3RetMCs
Second do (firmware v. 19.5.12) : https://dell.to/3Pzb3QO
Driver v.19.5.0

If the issue persist then update the BIOS and the iDRAC and check results.
BIOS - 2.16.0 update to:

iDRAC8 - 2.81.81.81 update to:
