Replaced 4TB HDD in my DELL R730x Esxi server. But i see size difference in iDRAC?
Hello ,
I replaced a failed 4TB HDD in my DELL R730xd Server and new HDD shows different size as you can in the iDRAC screenshot.Why is that ? This is first time i see this differnece after replacing the hard drive. Please let me know the reason and doest it affect the array in anyway?
Drive model : MG04SCA40ENY

Hello ,
Recently I changed HDD in ESXi host ( DELL R730xd) . But i see the SAS address has differences between ESXi host console and iDRAC and Physical unit has different . I mean If Physcal HDD SAS has last letteror number " C" at the end . VM shows the SAS address " E" and iDRAC shows " D" . for exapmle below. Why is all not same as phscical one ? what is the reason? Please explain.
WWN : 5000C50033260D18 ( Physical HDD)
SAS address :5000C50033260D19 ( iDRAC)
SAS address :5000C50033260D20 ( VM console)

Hello thaufeekcsg,
Is this what you actually see or an example?
WWN : 5000C50033260D18 ( Physical HDD)
SAS address :5000C50033260D19 ( iDRAC)
SAS address :5000C50033260D20 ( VM console)
Let's start with making sure the storage chain: Hard drive, backplane, controller are up to date on firmware

Then you may also do a flea power drain and check results:
drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed). After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in, then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

Thank you foe the quick response. Yes this is actual. So far no issue due to difference in SAS addresses . But i would like to know The SAS address should be matched in all device or this difference is normal.

Hi Charler ,
Yes it is. So for no issues since we replaced two weeks ago. This question from customer as they can see this differnfce only on this replaced HDD. the rest of the HDDs in the same array shows the SAS addres matched to the physcal one in the HDD. Anyway !
