Regarding hot-plug disks in R740xd

Hello

During configuration in OSC, I chose the following chassis for R740xd:

Chass is : 12x3.5" HDDs on BP, 4x3.5" HDDs on MP and 2x3.5" HDDs Flexbay

My question is;  Are the disks in Midplane and FlexBay hotplug?

In OSC, I dont see "hotplug" in their definitions when I choose a disk for MP or Flexbay  but I suspect that we can safely remove those disks while the server is operating so I couldn't be sure.  There is no information in technical guide or other formal documents regarding this.

Thanks in advance.

Indeed a good question. The manual isnt clear or in my opinion showing a wrong direction when speaking about "When a replacement hot swappable drive is installed and the system is powered on, the drive automatically begins to
rebuild" within the mid-bay. BECAUSE.... in all the years there was a rule of thumb which says.. if something have a orange(red) handle its designed for hot swapping and can be replaced when the server is up and running(see disktrays for front/rear, fans, psu or the new boss-2) and when its "blue" like release handles for pcie cards/riser and so on than the server needs to shutdown. The release handle for the midbay are marked "blue".

Joerg

Yes I need to remove the top cover but afterwards I can plug or unplug the disk in midplane while server is running, right?  I don't see anything like "power off the server before doing that" in the guides.

Hard drive from rear Flex bay is hot pluggable. The drives in the midplane backplane is inside the server and to remove those drives you need to remove the top cover. You can refer below link for more details on this
