R7515 fan speed at 100% when connecting the 12x 3,5" backplane
Hello everyone. I purchased the R7515 server. When the operating system starts, the cooling system works at 100%. When I disconnected the empty front panel for disks (not a single disk is installed, there are plugs), the fan speed dropped to 60%. What could be the problem? 6 Nidec UltraFlo V60E12BS1M3-H4286-A00 coolers are installed. I would be grateful for any ideas and help!No Events found!

For such information you need to sign a NDA and request this from your salesman

Hbadger69,
Dell servers use thermal and inventory-based fan control logic managed by iDRAC. When the system detects:
A connected backplane without recognized drives
Or non-Dell certified drive blanks or missing blanks
It may interpret this as a cooling risk, triggering maximum fan speed to protect system components
To answer why fan speed drops when the backplane is disconnected
Disconnecting the backplane removes the thermal zone associated with the drive bays.
iDRAC no longer monitors that zone, so it reduces fan speed based on remaining active zones.
Let me know if this helps.

Could you please tell me what the minimum speed in the cooling settings depends on? At the moment it is 36-100%, is it possible to lower the minimumDell-Martin S

Hi,
Sure you could have a lower Fan speed.

@Dell-Martin Sā
Could you please tell me what markings should be on the fans from the factory assembly?
