R730XD Server with 24 x 2.5" sas 12gb bays. Question about the HBA330's and cabling

I had the seller swap out the Perc raid card for the HBA330 (mini - it's a duaghtercard) and I also ordered two addtional HBA330's (Pci-e) so that I could connect all 24 drives. (I'm going to try and get Nutanix Community edition running on this, so no raid needed or wanted; failing that, will try freeBSD/ZFS.

Any idea of what SAS cables I need to go from the four ports on the back of each of the PCI-E cards; and also - what the best pci-e slots should be used, for these two HBA 330's? I will be adding a dual port Mellanox 40GbE nic.

Also, if I want to get a couple of nvme 2.5" drives for those two back bays, to use for OS, is there anything additional I would need or can the motherboard support those two drives?

Thanks in advance, any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.

Would you have a read and follow the Cabling diagram?

I don't think it's possible to use 2 HBA330s.

I'm a little confused, I thought that the HBA330 was limited to 8 drives? I have 24 bays in the server?

MoNeart,

Where are you seeing that the HBA330 only supports 8 drives, as it supports up to 32 I believe? So there shouldn't be a need to add a second HBA, as Young stated I don't it is supported to do so.

Hope this helps.

Hello I found this : https://dell.to/46GPJPr

that being said, please note this:

“HOT TECH TIP!  Two RAID arrays in the same server, configured with Split Backplane Mode, cannot connect without an OS!  While you can configure the RAID VDs in iDRAC, the data would not be shared between the drives.  Should one of the controllers fail, the data would not automatically pick up the data without an OS managing the connection. “
