R630 with latest BIOS and IDRAC Versions does not detect X710 2P NIC
Dear All,
I have recently bought a new X710 2P card which was installed on one of our R630 Servers. These Servers are running the latest BIOS verions as well as the latest IDRAC Version as well. The problem is that I can see the NIC occupying the slot in the Hardware inventory section but I cannot see it neither in the Firmware part of the inventory nor in the NICs part of the BIOS. The X710 Card in seated in Slot 1 on the server both ports have been connected to our core switch and both ports are up but the issue is that I cannot see the NIC in the firmware part as such I do not know what firmware the card is on nor am i able to upgrade and since it does not show in the BIOS NIC section the OS cannot detect it.
All the server info is attached in the screenshots.
Would really appreciate any help to get this issue resolved.
Regards,
Rodg

Hello Erman,
Thank you so much for your reply.
The card does not appear in the BIOS Device Settings as per your below screenshot only the integrated NIC appears there. It is a Dell original Brand New card that I bought from ebay. The card part number is: 05N7Y5. The card has a DOM 03/2105 as per the attached photo. I will try updating the card firmware but the question is how to do that since If I try to do it through IDRAC update utility it fails informing me that the device is not present for the current firmware. Is there any other way I can do the firmware upgrade other than using the IDRAC? As for the trying the card in a different slot I have not tried moving it to a different slot on the server yet. I will try changing the card slot as soon as I have managed to update the card firmware or if anything else fails.
Again Thank a lot for your time.
Regards,
Ragheb

Hello,
When you enter System Setup, can you see the card in Device Setting? similar to this image
Can you try the following FW update, if it works, you can also try to install the driver? Is it a Dell-certified card or can you send the part number of the card and I can check if it is compatible? Because there may be a card on which DELL Firmware does not work. But if it's a Dell card, you can try the FW update below. But if not a Dell card you can check for example with Intel's FW update but it may not work properly.
Intel NIC Family Version 19.5.0 Firmware for X710
https://dell.to/39ZPNyR
Intel NIC Family Version 18.8.0 Drivers for Windows
https://dell.to/2YV5np8
You can try a different slot or another server and try to find out if there is a problem with the card.
Let us know if this helps!

Thanks for the information, frankly interesting situation. At first you may do the iDRAC softreset. Https: //www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000126703/how-to-reset-the-internal-dell-remote- access-controller-idrac-on-a-poweredge-server
System Setup> iDRAC Settings> LifeCycle Control> Can you check if CSIOR is enabled?
Before trying different slots, can you try flea power drain when the server is available to shut down,
1. Power the server down.
2. Disconnect server from all power cables, Network cables.
3. Hold down the power button continuously for at least 10 seconds.
4. Insert power cables and network cables back to the system.
5. Wait about 2 minutes before powering on server to give the iDRAC time to initialize.
6. Power the system on.
As an alternative to updating, you can try it via the LifeCycle Controller (F10) and you can try it via racadam.
You can then check out alternative FW update methods here https://dell.to/3a0LKlG? guid = guid-89ef893d-b17a-4551-a9e0-512fc0a5d289

Hi Erman,
CSIOR is already enabled.
I have done all the steps as per your below instructions but it still couldn't recognize the card until I changed slots. Once I placed the card in slot 3 the system recognized it normally and it appeared in IDRAC and LifeCycle controller and I was able to upgrade its firmware to the version you have told me to upgrade it to. Everything now is working well.
Thank you much for your wonderful support and time.
