R630 ESXi 6.5 SUU times-out at dracut-initqueue hook
Greetings,
I'm trying to update the firmware on a PowerEdge R630 and the SUU hangs at "dracut-initqueue hook" and eventually times-out with "Warning: dracut-initqueue timeout - starting timeout scripts". I got this same error about a week ago on another R630 and thought it was a faulty disk and burned a second disk which succeeded. Now I'm getting the same error from the successful disk on another server. I've even burned a third disk and also the previous version, all resulting in the same time-out issue. Has anyone experienced this? I can't connect the system to the Internet so I'm stuck. Can someone tell me if I can use the Windows based SUU on an ESXi?
Thanks,
PootieT

Thanks Dell-Dylan,
I tried the Platform Specific bootable ISO which is what's returning the error.
But I just resolved. After lots of trial and error, I found that using the Win32bit version of the SUU first to update the BIOS and iDRAC, the Winx64 SUU would then allow updating all to the latest versions. The latter two were done through the onboard LifeCycle Controller Firmware update utility via an external Blue-Ray player hosting the 8+Gb Win32bit SUU disk and then the 16+Gb Winx64 Win SUU disk (reboots in between of course). A third reboot was necessary to get the SD module firmware updated last. Apparently it needs to be updated seperately.
Also, the initial host that was somehow successful using the Platform Specific SUU (v20.03.00) brought the Qlogic 10Gb Nics only to 15.00.10. The Winx64 SUU (v16.10.00)brought them to 15.05.12. Go figure.
Thanks for the reply. At least I know somebody's listening!

I would recommend using the Platform Specific bootable .ISO. It's an image built off of a Linux live environment that contains the firmware updates and an execution script. You just have to boot the server to it and it will do the rest. You can find the image here: https://dell.to/2UvyEFi
As for the SUU, ESXi would not be able to interact with it, to the best of my knowledge. If a way does exist, I'm not aware of it.

Note to anyone encountering this same issue: Be patient!
I had what I thought was the same issue. SUU apparently locking on on "dracut initqueue". I walked away to get a cup of coffee after searching the net and finding this post to discover that it continued booting. Probably hung for 10 minutes. So, my advice for anyone else encountering this: get a cup of something and be prepared to wait. It worked fine for a bunch of servers, just slowly.
Edit to add:
I timed a Dell R820 - it took 8 minutes to pass: "starting dracut initqueue hook..."
