R540 and Intel P4500 SSD drives

I purchased two Intel SSD DC P4500 drives, 2TB, for my R540. On boot the drive trays with them flash, and in idrac I get "The invalid drive type detected in bay 1".

Are the P4500 drives not compatible? Im not using the built in RAID, instead im using Unraid and just passing the drives through it it. Thanks.

Hello first thing you need to check is, through IDRAC, if you see the disk you added on OMSA.

Neither show up. The health light just flashes on both drives when the server is running.

Hello matt33,

It does not look like your configuration can support U.2 NVMe SSD.

Only the PowerEdge R440 system board can support the R540 hybrid backplane configuration.

The current DPN of the system board is #8CYF7. That and the extra cabling needed is not installed.

From the service tag you provided you have system board #PRWNC

See page 110 for cabling. Do you have that backplane and those cables on your system?

I have attached an image of the hybrid backplane. Do you have connectors 1 and 2 on your?

Mine is configured as on page 108, figure 104.

The rear drive cage is part number PT9X1. All the cabling is connected. Power to the board as in figure 131 on page 135. Power is plugged into 17, power into 26.

Hi,

You will need different hardware to support the drives. Current configuration you have is incompatible.

You need the hardware in page 110 and also the mainboard, Charles mentioned.

Strange. I'll return the backplane.

So I cant use any u.2 NVME drives? Im trying to configure some SSD for a cache pool to use.
