R515 unable to install proxmox or access iDRAC6
So I recently bought a 8-bay R515, and noticed a few things after. no space for internal SSD/storage? and tried to access iDRAC6 but was unable to, even after changing the IP etc. of it, and also when I put an SSD in one of the front bays, and putting it in a "RAID" config via the internal configurator, and then installing ProxMox, it got stuck installing, constantly, but windows 10 and Ubuntu work just fine.
could definitely use some help with this, especially since it's my first time working with an old enterprise server.

Small update: it's an older R515 with 2x AMD opterons, so from like 2010-2012 or so..
Atm I put a SSD and a HDD in it, but unable to have 2 virtual disks, and also unable to add both to a single RAID. so when installing an OS, it only sees one disk. Installed Open Media Vault without any problems, except when trying to make a file system in it, as it wouldn't show any disks...
so back to square one I suppose.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.
I’m afraid ProxMox isn’t an OS that is officially supported By Dell.
Regardless, it’s best to have your RAID configuration checked (If there’s RAID at all, what is your RAID controller, etc…)
Make sure your disks are recognized- you can check via the controller.
Also ProxMox may not support this RAID controller that you are using now.

if I'm not mistaken it said iPERC H700 in the system config.
physical card info:
-smaller card: Netlist nhw127r21207f-d64nsfd1
-bigger card: cn-039h7h-75435-365-0011-A03
I had made a RAID, but that would only allow for the SSD or the HDD, not together, and also not at the same time. it was one or the other. So it won't allow for 2 at the same time, and also not 2 virtual disks, and thus the OS I had would only recognize it's own disk, the SSD, which had the OS, and when I selected the HDD in the system config of the server, the OS was gone, and the SSD was not recognized.

Hello,
please verify if you are not mixing hdd types. Mmixing hard drives and SSDs within a virtual disk is not supported.
Try also to check firmware level of the PERC.
Thanks

I didn't mix them in a VHD, but even creating 2 VHDs and then being able to use them doesn't seem supported.
for some reason the server is unable to use a SSD and a HDD at the same time, nomatter how I do it.. that is the problem I'm having.

Hello,
"but windows 10 and Ubuntu work just fine."
I'm afraid, if you have no issues with other OS, it's hard to think that the problem lies with the hardware.
Another thing you can do is to raise an official ticket to your region support https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/en-us/contactus/dynamic for a second opinion.

while yes win10 and ubuntu work, still unable to use both a SSD and a HDD, because somewhere, somehow the hardware won't allow it.
