R440 with ext Broadcom 57416 LAN trouble

Hello.

We use two R440 servers connected to each other via a 540-BBUO network card to work in a Stratus Everrun cluster. Some time ago, one of its ports on the first server became unavailable. IDRAC shows Link Status Down.

We replaced the patch cord with a known good one, then replaced the network card with a new one, but the situation did not change. We checked the replaced card on another R350 server and both ports work there.

What is cause of this?

Cityguide,

The issue you're experiencing with the R440 iDrac displaying the link is DOWN message typically indicates a problem with the network connection. However, since you've replaced the network card and verified its functionality on another server, it's unlikely that the issue is with the card itself.

Here are some potential causes:

Server's PCIe Slot Issue : It's possible that the PCIe slot on the R440 server is faulty or not functioning correctly. This could be causing the link status to remain down, even with a new network card.

Firmware or Driver Issues : Firmware or driver issues on the server or the network card could be contributing to the problem. Ensure that the server's BIOS, IDRAC firmware, and network card drivers are up-to-date.

Network Card Configuration : The network card's configuration might be causing the issue. Check the card's settings, such as the link speed, duplex, and flow control, to ensure they're set correctly.

Hardware or Electrical Issue : A hardware or electrical issue on the server, such as a faulty power supply or a short circuit, could be causing the problem.

Stratus Everrun Cluster Configuration : The Stratus Everrun cluster configuration might be contributing to the issue. Check the cluster settings and ensure that they're configured correctly.

Now some steps you can take would be to;

Swap the Network Card with a Different Slot : Try swapping the network card with a different PCIe slot on the server to see if the issue is slot-specific.

Check the Server's Event Logs : Check the server's event logs to see if there are any error messages related to the network card or the IDRAC.

Run a Diagnostic Test : Run a diagnostic test on the server and the network card to identify any potential issues.

Let me know if this helps and what you see.
