Powervault ME5012 SSD compatibility issue

Hello Dears,

I have Dell EMC power vault ME5012 with HDD drives,

I need to replace the HDD drives with SSD drives and I have purchased Samsung MZILT3T8HBLS-00007 (which is vendor part number for DPN MZILT3T8HBLS0D3)

when I installed the SSD drives to the storage unit I got the below message

Any recommendation or advise on the above situation rather than replacing the SSD's ?

Eyad Alahmad,

While the drives are indeed listed as supported, as seen on page 18 here, there would only be a couple reasons the drives would return an error like that. Either the firmware level the drives are at are not supported for the controller, or the other reason would be that the drives were previously used in another enclosure. Now if the latter is the case then you wouldn't be able to get the drives to work.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello,

Actually, It's most likely the first reason (firmware problem) as the SSD's are brand new.

I also outweigh the first reason as Samsung support advised that the SSD's are sold with generic firmware when not specified for a certain product (Dell in this case).

So, in order to resolve this issue, I believe I need to update the SSD's firmware to DSA3 as mentioned in Dell documents you previously shared, would you please confirm and advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Eyad Alahmad,

Yes, mostly likely you will need Dell firmware DSA3 to be compatible with the storage, according to the support matrix. But I don't think you would be able to flash from generic firmware to Dell firmware, but this would be my assumption. Here is the DSA3 firmware file for the drive https://dell.to/3UgYl8C for MZILT3T8HBLS

I didn't find DSA3 firmware in the shared URL in previous reply

Eyad Alahmad,

I am not sure I follow, from the readme you can see the drive is listing a dsa3.bin included in the update.

Model #                          Criticality         File Name
--------------------- ------------- ----------------------------
MZILT960HBHQ0D3  Recommended    DSA3.bin
