PowerEdge R740 - Update IDRAC9 from 4.10.10.10 to 6.00.02.00 or 6.10.00.00
Hi all
I want to upgrade IDRAC9 version 4.10.10.10, there are two possibilities.
- For the first version 6.00.02.00 there is this prerequisite
iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller 3.30.30.30
Should be always installed or it depends on which version of IDRAC you need to upgrade ?
If so, can the installation be done from IDRAC? It seems to me that there is only one EXE for Windows or one BIN for "Linux". You are forced to upgrade from an OS, right ?
2. If instead I want to upgrade from 4.10.10.10 to 6.10.00.00 the prerequisite no longer exists .. is it correct ?
At this point, to avoid an extra step, whenever necessary, I update directly to version 6.10.00.00.
Is my reasoning correct?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, You can use firmimg.d9 file after extracting the .exe file. ".d9 — Contains both iDRAC and Lifecycle Controller firmware" Also you can check here https://dell.to/3FTdE1S;
For updating iDRAC FW you can use either Update Package for MS Windows 64-Bit or firmimg image format file. Sometimes .exe files do not run properly on the iDRAC GUI. In such cases, as a workaround option is to download the file iDRAC and extract it. Once you extract you will get firmimg.d9 file and that file can be used in iDRAC GUI for update.

I cannot edit my previous post, why ?
Anyway, in the meantime I think I have understood that the prerequisite is nothing more than an IDRAC update and that the .EXE executable can be unpacked thus making the file with the d9 extension available which can be used directly by IDRAC to carry out the update, is it correct ?

Thanks Young E
I think I can use directly the .d9 file for the IDRAC upgrade, right ?
If yes, why is it not one of the various possibilities available for installation?

Thanks EramnO
I was not aware that IDRAC can use directly the Windows .EXE or the Linux .BIN file ..
I have extracted and used directly the d9 file, upgrade done from version 4.10.10.10 to 6.10.00.00.
