PowerEdge R720xd W/iDRAC 7 update path

I have idrac with ancient software and need to update it. Could someone advise update path?

idrac 7 1.23.23
Bios 1.3.6
Lifecycle controller 1.0.8.42

Aim is to update to newest stable version.

Hi, I would like to remind in general we don't recommend jumping big in firmware updates between too many updates. This may cause damage to the system. It would be more appropriate to switch to the latest update by making at least some intermediate updates. I would also recommend that the BIOS and iDRAC be updated close to each other simultaneously. because, for example, if the BIOS is up to date but the iDRAC is too old, the BIOS and iDRAC may not be able to communicate with each other. You can see the old version from https://dell.to/3BxeIqn

Hi, yes you are right, you should do both updates in versions where iDRAC and Lifecycle are separate. In general update, sequence is like this:

1. iDRAC

2. Lifecycle Controller

3. BIOS

4. Diagnostics

5. OS Driver Pack

6. RAID

7. NIC

8. PSU

9. CPLD

10. Other update

Thank you for the reply!

Thing that bothers me that in the older firmware versions lifecycle controller firmware and idrac firmware were decoupled while as of now from what i see they are always updated together. Should this also be updated separately?
