PowerEdge R330 boots spontaneously
Hello everyone,
I am experiencing a strange behavior with a R330 server since some days. The server is not supposed to be on all the time, but it will boot on its own; but I do not understand why. IT also showed some instabilities in the sense that when on, it did shutdown also on its own.
I've upgraded iDRAC, the BIOS, left only one stick of RAM in slot 1, ran the hardware diagnostic.
WakeOnLan is off so the "power on" problem is not supposed to come from that.
So I am lost. I do not understand why the server just boots without being explicitly asked too.
Has anyone already observed such strange behavior ?

This thread caught my attention, with a similar behavior: https://www.dell.com/community/Rack-Servers/Dell-PowerEdge-R330-Spontaneous-Shutdown/m-p/8014440#M9046
So, I tried another front panel board from another server. This helped with the problem.
So I found a second end front panel, and the server is back to its normal behavior it seems like.
So the solution was to replace the front panel board. case closed.

What power supply you have on the server? Can you login to iDRAC and check lifecyclelog to see any power supply logs during these events? This can also happen if there are some power fluctuations on input line

the PSU used to be two Y8Y65, but I switched the main to another one from another R330 I have working fine. So now it has one 9WR03 and one Y8Y65.
The lifecyclelog only shows log like system is powering on/off because of power button action or something of that sort, then cpu is resetting.
The other servers connected to the same PDU are happy with the power line, so not sure that's what's causing this.
Today it's doing something strange too: powers itself on, but then it looks like the PSU shuts itself down. Then it restarts, shuts down, etc ...
I disconnected nearly everything except for the power cable, then it booted further, but then another shutdown occurred.
So I have no idea what's going on.
