Is there a way of updating the BIOS from outside the OS?

Another question about the 2950.

Is there anyway of updating the BIOS on a 2950 from outside the OS? Like through the NIC or some sort? Anyway at all?

My server is currently on BIOS version 1.3.7

You can update BIOS on 2950 using a bootable USB key. To do this you can download "PE2950-020301C.exe" file from below link, copy to a bootable USB key and update BIOS using the USB key.

In the old days there was is ISO/DVD (SBUU?) available which boot a Linux and ends in a easy to use GUI. This ISO can provided through the iDRAC NIC of course.

I will try this ASAP. Just need to find a CD big enough for the ISO.

Hi, I’m wondering if you have IDRAC to your PE2950. If so, this blog might help:

This method worked wonders for us. I cannot thank you enough for this. We managed to update the BIOS to 2.7.0 with little hassle.
