iDRAC License lost

Hello,

I have hard resetted my iDRAC 7 controller by pressing the 'id' button for 30 seconds.

What I didn't know, the iDrac license is lost. The only thing I have is a http interface which asks for a license.

I am not interested in an enterprise license, just the express one in order to manage basics of my old server (dell poweredge R420 serial).

How do I get to recover that license, given that this server is EOLd since years ?

Best regards.

VFulgencio,

Holding the button shouldn't have caused any license to be lost, as it simply "reboots" the iDrac.  If you have access to your Digital Locker the licenses should show there.

Now regarding losing the license, was the motherboard replaced at any time by chance?

Let me know.

Hello Chris,

I have checked my dell profile, and it just says the server is not supported anymore since 2015.

Since I am the "replacement IT guy" for a couple of years, I don't have the history of the server, nor the password.

Eventually I found the iDRAC passwords for my other servers, but not this one.

I've pressed the ID button for about 30 seconds in order to reset the passwords / settings as stated in https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000126703/how-to-reset-the-internal-dell-remote-access-controller-idrac-on-a-poweredge-server?lwp=rt

Perhaps the iDRAC didn't work even before, since I couldn't connect, I don't know.

AFAIK, the motherboard hasn't been replaced, at least I guess so since I cannot find anything in our docs / old emails.

I have VMWare ESXi 6.7 running on the machine, I can ssh into it and use whatever tool to get infos, but it won't tell me if the motherboard was changed I guess.

Any idea what I could do ?

Thank you.

From the tag there doesn't appear to be a license for the server, but at times you can see a license error, like if a previous temporary license was installed or a motherboard replacement, hence why I asked previously. Would you confirm if you have an amber light on the server, and if so what is the specific error being displayed?

Hello Chris,

I went to check and there is an amber light, however the message is about a riser cable problem (HWC2005) which IMHO isn't related.

No error message about the iDrac on the front panel.

Here's a screenshot of the current state of the iDrac web interface:

Of course, when I try to update the BMC firmware, I get a license missing error:

So I've seen there is some iso to install an enterprise trial license, but I just want the basic express one.

How can I proceed ?

BR.

Seeing we are not able to resend Express licenses, and only Enterprise, you may want to consider contacting Customer Care and see if they have the option to resend that specific license file.
