iDRAC 7/8 BIOS and lifecycle upgrade

Hi team,

I am bit confused regarding upgrading iDRAC bios and lifecycle. As per service tag is shows it is idrac 8. User currently running really old version bios 2.4.2 and firmware 1.57. As per your idracmanual those are for iDRAC7.

As per the model recommendation for example R330. It doesn't really differentiate between idrac versions.

I am not sure where to go from here and what recommendation should I give to client.

My Question is does it really matter what idrac version are they on or I can go with the latest bios/iDRAC lifecycle firmware version as per the model.

Thank you

Regards,

Nina

Hello Nina,

The 12th gen (R320) and the 13 gen (R330) share an iDRAC firmware but do not share a BIOS firmware.

iDRAC  should be up to at least 1.57.57 before updating to the 2.xx.xx level.

Beginning with the 2.xx.xx the iDRAC and LifeCycle are combined firmware.

The best way to assure you are getting the correct updates for your system is at the support site, input your service tag and it will return you to the Driver/Firmware page for that specific system:  https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us
