HDD not found on T440 when installing Ubuntu

Hi there,

Recently got a Dell Poweredge T440 and I seem to be unable to install Ubuntu Server via USB (I have tried both 20.04.3 and 22.04) as it is not able to detect the HDD installed, getting the following error partway through installation.

Block probing did not discover any disks. Unfortunately this means that installation will not be possible

I have tried changing the SATA setting on boot from AHCI to OFF, then to RAID with no change in the outcome. I have also tried following the advice of this stackexchange forum, however the ISO device does not appear to be mounted anyway so there is no change in the result.

Is there any further advice in how to get this operating? Appreciate any help.

Hey @CJB,

Just to make sure, what disk are you using on your PowerEdge T440. Please, let me know the details of this disk.

I am sure you already found the certified releases for Ubuntu for the PowerEdge T440 here: https://dell.to/3GqeeEc . It is supported on the server: https://dell.to/3a3Hk08

What is your BIOS firmware version? Did you tried this guide: How to install the operating system on a Dell PowerEdge Server? (OS deployment) https://dell.to/3N1EPKs

Regards.

Hi,

What Raid Controller you have ?

if it's PERC H740 or H730 you should do first a virtual disk and then maybe it will appear on Ubuntu
