HDD can't be read

I installed perc H810 in my R720, but in the process Ieft screw driver in the machine while it was running; I removed two GPUs, and H710 mini in order to install H810. The R720 boots, except it can't read the HDD, and the link lights do not work. The HDD's can be read on my R710, but not the other.

How do I proceed to identify what component has failed.

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.

H810 is a external PERC card. It is used to connect to external storage.

The only option for you to upgrade is H710P Mini.

Hello G46664,

The H710 mini, an Internal controller, does work with SATA drives including 1GB SATA drives.

It's hard to say what could have been damaged when leaving foreign material inside a running server.

I would say you may need to get a replacement H710 mini, as Young mentioned, or try the one you have in another server.

Other possible failure points: Backplane, Cable, System board.

A few part numbers you can check for replacement PERC mini controller:

Part Number

Part Description

5CT6D

ASSY,CRD,CTL,H710,512,NV,MCRD

FRH64

ASSY,CRD,CTL,H710,512,NV,MCRD

TTVVV

ASSY,CRD,CTL,H710P,1GB,NV,MCRD

TY8F9

ASSY,CRD,CTL,H710P,1GB,NV,MCRD

(These part numbers are Service Part numbers. You would need to call in to Sales and ask for the Spare Parts Department to get a quote)

I reseated  the H710 mini and the server read the hard drives. Is the H710 mini capable of reading 1TB Sata drives?
