FX2 CMC Battery Replacement
We received an email alert from our FX2:
Event Message: The CMC 1 battery has failed.
Detailed Description: System settings may be preserved if input power is not removed from the power supplies.
Recommended Action: Check the battery.
Message ID: BAT0017
Are we able to remove the CMC and replace the battery without powering down any of the 4 blades in the chassis?
Anyone know what kind of battery it is?
Thank you

Ej72,
To answer your questions
Yes, the FX2 CMC is hot‑swappable. Dell’s official CMC replacement procedure states that the CMC module is hot‑swappable, meaning it can be removed and replaced without powering down the chassis or the blades. So this means all four compute sleds (blades) can remain fully powered on while you replace the CMC that contains the failed battery.
What Kind of Battery Does the FX2 CMC Use?
Dell does not list the FX2 CMC battery as a field‑replaceable unit (FRU). Instead, the battery is integrated into the CMC assembly, and the replacement procedure for any battery failure (BAT0017) is simply to replace the entire CMC module.
Dell does not publish a standalone battery type for FX2 CMC modules, and the battery is not intended to be replaced independently in the field.
Let me know if this helps.

FYI for anyone reading this in the future, it's just a CR2032 battery. We popped it out, installed the new battery, and everything came back up without any loss of configuration. There was no need to replace the entire CMC unit and the blades were unaffected.
