Dell R620 not able to detect Mellanox ConnectX-3 MCX354A-FCBT 40Gbps NIC
Hi all, I have a problem whereby all 3 units of my newly purchased refurbished R620 servers were not able to detect my ConnectX-3 MCX354A-FCBT 40Gbps card (non-Dell, but Mellanox).
For all the servers, I have updated with the Platform Specific Bootable ISO, PER620, 21.07.00, and tried the official Mellanox ConnectX-3 and ConnectX-3 Pro Ethernet adapter Firmware, but with no avail. Totally not detectable via iDRAC, or even LCC > Hardware Configuration > Hardware Inventory >View Current Inventory. No LED blinking either on the card.
Installed the NIC on the PCIe Slot 1 with single processor configuration, and happened the same with all 3 servers. Any idea what is the issue?
Meanwhile, still trying out the DELL EMC Server Update Utility to see if it fix...
Thanks.

Did you server have 2 PCIe slot (1 LP and 1 FH) or 3 LP PCIe Slots. As Young E mentioned all PCIe slot will not be working when you have only one CPU installed on the server. If you have 3 PCIe slot server then Slot 3 only work with single CPU.

Hi, thank you for using Dell.
1. You are using a non-Dell part. That's what's causing the iDRAC issue.
2. For “Installed the NIC on the PCIe Slot 1 with single processor configuration"
Could you please take a look at here?

Thanks for the reply.
Meaning to said that I will need to use a Dell card, or Mellanox with Dell firmware flashed, in order to get to view the details on the iDRAC, am I right? But there is no LED indicator on the card blinking at all, and installed of firmware doesn't get it working in any how either.
For the card, I installed it over the PCIe Slot 1, whereby I am using a Dell R620 8-slot model, with currently single CPU installed.
Please do advise me if I am doing anything wrong. Thanks.

Hi, if it doesn't work, yes try another slot. also please have another look at the link I gave you up there- https://dell.to/3ibCBul You will need 2 CPUs to use all the PCI slots.

Hi, I did installed in the riser card, and I am just showing the location of the slot that I am using for the specific card that installed.
Or should I installed in the slot 3 in my configuration instead to get it working? Of course understanding that it will still not detectable via iDRAC but should be usable in OS, am I right?

Hi, I don't believe you are supposed to remove the riser card. It won't work without it. Even minimum to post need a riser card
