Dell R610 Bios upgrade for CPU upgrade
Hello.
I have recently been given an Dell R610 Server and I want to use some newer CPU's that I have.
The CPU's that are in the machine is E5504 and I want to install two E5640
Now for that I need to Update Bios after since the server does not start with the new cpu's
When I try to Launch LC this appears
I have tried to use minumum config and waiting before power on and such
From what it seems like then the Bios and IDRAC is VERY OLD
I have no knowledge about updating IDRAC or BIOS but I have been scouting the forums for 1-2 months trying to find a fix to my server
The server itself supports the new cpu's but the bios does not it seems
No Events found!

Minimum version available for download now for R610 is 1.85 for iDRAC and 6.1.0 for BIOS. your first upgrade will be these versions. Once you reach these level then you can update iDRAC and BIOS to next version by skipping some versions (E.g. select one FW from each year).
You can refer "Other Available Versions" of below links to download previous version of iDRAC and BIOS
iDRAC : https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kpccc&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r610
BIOS : https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=0yv9d&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r610
To update iDRAC you can download file with file format as "An application" and extract it(It is a self extractable file) and upload it using iDRAC GUI update page
To update BIOS you can have a bootable USB key and use "Flash BIOS executable" file from above link to update(Boot to the USB and execute the file) it.
Note : Please ensure you take backup of your data before performing such maintenance activities

As you have very old iDRAC and BIOS FW, installing new CPU might not work. I would recommend to update iDRAC and BIOS FW with old processor and once these FW are latest you can try installing new processor.
As you have very old iDRAC processor I would recommend to perform staged update of iDRAC and BIOS in parallel(iDRAC -> BIOS -> iDRAC -> BIOS etc.) using intermediate FW versions than directly updating from very old FW to latest.

Hello Shine
What IDRAC version should I start at? I know I have to take it one update at at time and slowly work my way up
And what bios should I pick once I've installed the IDRAC?
Do you have any guides how to install the new IDRAC and BIOS?

Okay I have made some progress.
I have updated the IDRAC from 1.0.3 to 1.1.0, I found an old post where they had Older IDRAC versions
As of right now I cannot get into the web interface again.
I will have it unplugged for a while and see if I can do it later this week

Hello Again
I've made big progress as to updating and learning the systems
I have maneged to get acces to the IDRAC again after I changed the IDRAC IP to something else in my scope and I could finnaly log in.
I have updated the IDRAC from 1.1.0 to 1.8.5 now.
When I recived the server the SD card in the IDRAC was taken out which makes sense why the IDRAC is that old now and the LC is corrupt
I have inserted a SD card in the back and formatted it and now the server does update IDRAC no issues

Hi, I will suggest you to update iDRAC and BIOS FW. Also, you can try updating your driver too.

Hello BobRoager,
Were you able to use the method that Shine mentioned?
Use BIOS-executable file. To use it, download the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable fat32 USB flash drive, then boot the system to the USB flash drive and run the program.

I would recommend an 8G or less thumb drive.
