dell poweredge R730 backplane abcd configuration
has anyone done the abcd configuration on the dell poweredge R730 backplane? I see it as an option in the manual, and if I'm reading it correctly it should give each drive it full speed, and not split 2 sas cables between 24 drives (correct)?

Thanks for the details. abcd connector shown here is for NVMe configuration. It is only supported if you have NVMe SSD drives on the backplane

Can you give more details on backplane configuration you are looking for. Is it about split configuration where two PERC controller connected to same backplane?

Yes i like to split the connection across a few cards, i like to do 3 cards to split the band with and not have any bottle neck in the future. Just looks to see how the abcd connection work.
in the manual on page 157 (Figure 82, option 3)

Unless you have the Dual PERC Cards I think the only option you have is to log into iDRAC and go to Storage>Enclosures>setup and setup the backplane for either unified mode or split mode.
On my 730xd I have a few options.
Unified mode

Im try to find out what the 4 sas ports on the backplane do. The dell decimation really does not tell much. It has a pic of a 2nd controller card hook up to them.
Im try to find out if i hook them up with the a0 and b0 to a controllor card will they all work and give each drive the full band with and not split 2 sas over 12 drives.
Im plan to uses this as a large network nas and at the start it will be just me and a 2nd computer hitting it up, so the performance would not be a problem. But in time i plan to have a few others and i do not wish to reconfigure it later in life. I like to do it at the start with zero data on it.

Thanks, i just happen to figure this our about 30min ago on reddit, happen to find some thread where someone ask about it to. I just go with the 2 controller cards option for now, that still will provide enough performance for some time.
