Dell poweredge 1950 III Ambient temperature warning code 114

Hello I was wondering why all of a sudden my poweredge 1950's fans were starting to rev up and I got a warning Ambient temperature warning code 114 it is still cool to the touch not sure if there is a bios update that would fix it or not or do I have a control board failure.

Hi @ccr-admin,

Ultimately, if this happened all of a sudden, most likely it's hardware failure. But before to conclude that, if you have a downtime, try check in the BIOS hardware logs to find if there are any traces of hardware alert triggers. Try checking the chassis cover intrusion switch. Have you checked if all of the fan are spinning?

Sometimes, BIOS updates can resolve the issue, have you checked the version if you're on latest?

yes I updated  to the latest  I believe that is 1.2.7. I checked to make sure all of the fans were spinning. frankly the error will disappear but comeback I work as a self employed it tech I was thinking for a long time that it could be the control board. not sure if I could get a new one a ebay I came to this conclusion because when the error code isn't there I can't see the blue backlight just the amber backlight when the error message pops up. I bought it from ebay for $72 about a year ago still learning about the older servers. I bought it to use it as a active directory server possibly a thin client terminal I do not no how to get to the event log would it be in the bios or another key I would have to press during startup or is it in windows I just installed windows server 2012 R2. would someone recommend a good windows server OS or should I stick with what I was going to use which was zentyal server 6.2 I tried 7.0 kept throwing it me error messages then it would hang

Hello,

as Joey said, probably hardware issue. For the event log you can use Server Administrator software.

Thanks

just wondering if I replaced the control board would that replace the ambient temperature censer I believe that is the problem because it isn't that hot inside the chassis and the temperature is cold the only thing that is getting warm is the ram and I'm fairly certain that fully buffered ram is supposed to get hot especially when it has a do not touch and a heatwave symbol on the ram when I bought it. I upgraded it to 32 GB from 16 GB

yes the temperature sensor is on the motherboard, so if issue is related to the sensor you can solve replacing the motherboard
