Dead PowerEdge R640, no Power or iDrac

R640 died recently, all other equipment in the rack is fine. Unit no longer powers on. No response from idrac remotely or even when hitting the identify button. Tried swapping with known good PSU (so PSU have been reseated), unplugged and left offline for awhile, tried "flea drain", different power cords/spots on the PDU. PSU will light up green, but no lights at all on the server even after trying the power button. Unit is out of warranty so replacing the motherboard like ‎PowerEdge R640 - no Power - no iDrac | DELL Technologies did under warranty isn't an option. Nothing on the front panel.

Hello, if this part in red gets no LED with MTP configuration, then I would say the MoBo is dead, which will need replacement accordingly. For R640, PSU connects straight to the mobo.
Respectfully,

Hello,

When you’ve got no power, no iDRAC, and no front panel activity (but the PSU LED is green), one of the best things to try is a Minimum to POST configuration. Here’s what I’d suggest:

Strip the system down to just the essentials:

  • System board
  • 1 CPU in socket CPU1
  • 1 DIMM in slot A1
  • 1 PSU

Disconnect everything else drives, RAID controller, mezzanine cards, all fans except one, front panel, USB devices, etc.

Then:

  1. Do another flea power drain (unplug, hold power button for ~30 seconds).
  2. Reconnect power and wait at least 3 minutes before pressing the power button.

If it still doesn’t power on, odds are high that one of the core components is toast most likely the motherboard.

You can also try clearing the NVRAM:

  • Find the NVRAM_CLR jumper
  • Move the jumper to the clear position.
  • Power on the system (you might get a jumper error  that’s fine).
  • Power off and return the jumper to its original position.

Hope that helps!
