c6320 clock speed locket to 1.2Ghz on all 4 nodes
Hi,
a couple of weeks ago we noticed that all nodes on our c6320 aswell on our c6220 are locked to 1.2GHz.
On our c6220 we were able to bring clock speed on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 0 @ 2.50GHz back to 2.9Ghz by setting bios Option "emergency CPU ThrottlePolicy" do nothing.
But on our c6320 there is no such Option bios and idrac are latest versions.
Bios: 2.16.0
iDrac8: 2.83.83.83
CPU model on c6320 is: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v3 @ 2.60GHz
OS: Ubuntu/Centos
What we've checked so far:
- difftrent kernel
- diffrent OS
- switched intel_pstate,intel_cstate,acpi_cpufreq driver
- Set all options in bios and iDrac to performance
- disabled cstates and c1e in bios
- reset bios to default
- disconnected from power for 30mins
- played with all other cpu related options in bios
CPU Temps are fine at around 45°, power supplys both working, no errors in idrac log.
The Strange thing is that 2 C6xxx systems had the same problem on all 4 nodes. As i mentioned before on C6220 it could be fixed with bios option "emergency CPU ThrottlePolicy" do nothing.
Does anyone has an idea how i can manage to get clock speed back to Normal?
Thanks.

Hi,
for anyone who has the same problem, i could fix it with installing new FanControllerBoard Firmware V0213-2017-08-22(heavy).
i did it with racadm :
racadm -r "iDracIP" -u "User" -p "Password" update -f FC0213.sc.
Thanks for youre help guys.

DeathEibon,
Would you confirm a couple things for me, such as if Turbo Boost mode is enabled in the BIOS? Also, if you have another group of systems that are working, would you pull a TSR from a working system and then pull a TSR from those that are throttled. Then upload them to upload. dell. com and private message me the svc tag used to upload, so I may locate the logs.
Let me know what you see.

Do you know 100% for sure both PSUs are okay? I've seen cases in my C6320 fleet where if a PSU is dead, it throttles all CPUs in half. Obvious long term solution is to replace the failed PSU. Sometimes the iDRAC does not report the failure in rare cases. And in other cases, the PSU LED is still green even though some fault has happened.
The other solution I've used was to issue an IPMI command to disable emergency throttling by affecting a Chassis Policy. It is used to affect the Fan Controller Board (FCB) and may depend on the firmware version that your FCB is running on. This is unrelated to the BIOS setting you've seen as that sounds like it only affects one sled. The FCB sits between the PSUs and all your servers.

Hi,
thanks for your reply turbo boost is enabled. But we only have that c6220 and c6320 showing same behavior. We dont have working c6000 series where cpu is working as expected.

Interesting i'll try the ipmi command. PSU's are both working, i testet both PSUs while power cord was pulled from the other one. I found another interesting entry in idrac :
"The Intel Management Engine is unresponsive and the server thermal failsafe state is activated."
i saw that that one node while booting with the suggestion to pull power cords for 30 secs what we also already did for 30mins. but maybe i have to focus on IME.
Thanks so far for your help guys.
