Upgrading from EMCIE v4 to v5
I received knowledge maintenance notifications for both my EMCIE CLARiiON Specialist v4 and EMCIE NAS Specialist v4 certifications. Both of these include Knowledge Maintenance tests. So to upgrade my certifications to v5 can I just take these KM tests or do I need to retake the CLARiiON and NAS IE tests (E20-340 & E20-361)?
Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
Good question. I've turned my response into two FAQ-style questions and answers below.
Will I receive a Knowledge Maintenance (KM) bundle notification if I have an older Proven credential?
If you receive a KM bundle for a specific Proven credential, it should mean that you have the current credential. If you think that is wrong, and that you actually only hold an older credential, you should attempt to confirm your credential version in one of two ways. First, you can check your credentials by logging into your I7 account at http://i7lp.integral7.com/emc. Second—if you cannot confirm that you have a current credential through I7—you can ask the Education Services help desk for assistance by writing EdServices@emc.com. They will be able to check your record and tell you what credentials you hold.
Does taking a KM test update my Proven credential?
The Knowledge Maintenance program aims to give you a free and easy way to maintain and validate your technical knowledge. The KM test and certificate let you prove that you have kept your knowledge current, but they do not modify your credential.

I'm facing the same issue here. I hold IEe and TA on Clariion. Both are v4's.... I once received KM's on these, but that's ancient history.
My IE and TA on Symmetrix are both v5's. But I think I've never received any KMs on these 2. Does anyone have any ideas why ?

You might have received KM notifications for the version 4.0 CLARiiON tracks if it was a long time ago: The original Knowledge Maintenance program did not require a specific version of the certifications.
In its current iteration (the re-launch took place in July 2010), the Knowledge Maintenance program only sends notifications to those with current certifications.
Symmetrix Solutions tracks are now all at version 6.0, so if you hold the 5.0 credential you will not receive Symmetrix Knowledge Maintenance notifications until you take and pass the new Symmetrix Solutions certification test. You also will not receive any additional Knowledge Maintenance notifications for the CLARiiON certifications you hold until you have the current credential (currently version 5.0 for both IE and TA tracks).
I hope this helps.

RP,
If you have taken the courses and passed the KM test for both the TA and IE bundles, and if you have received KM certificates for both, there is nothing more you need to do for Knowledge Maintenance.
If you did not receive the KM certificates you tested for, please email EdServices@emc.com with this same information.

Hi RRR,
as of my knowldge, you should be getting an email from EDServices@emc.com saying you are entitled for an KM online exam. then you can entitle the study materials by emailing them.
you still can email them and ask for the same if you have not done it.
I have not done the KM Exam for TA. i will be doing it in some time now. i hope this will help you.

RRR:
PLEASE DISREGARD RP's reply. It is misleading, and RP is not a member of the program team (please note that RP asked me a question earlier in this string).
KM tests are not the same as Proven Exams.
We deliver KM content only to those with a current Proven certificaiton, and the KM content helps them remain current in their knowledge. There is a test associated with a KM bundle, but that test just validates that they have learned the new material sent with the KM bundle. If they pass, they receive a KM certificate of completion so that they can share that fact with their employers, but it does not update their Proven certification.
If you want to upgrade your certification from CLARiiON Solutions EMCIE v4 to v5, you will have to take a proctored exam, just like you did the first time you were certified. Once your Proven certification is current, you will receive any KM notifications and have access to the KM tests associated with them.
To simplify this as much as possible:
1. You will have to take an on-site, proctored exam to update any out-of-date Proven certifications.
2. After you receive the new Proven certification, you will start receiving KM notifications (if there are any)
3. If you take a KM test, you will receive a certificate of completion
4. A KM certificate of completion is not the same as a Proven certification and it does not change the version of your Proven credential.
If you have questions about how to attend a Proven proctored exam, or other aspects of the Proven Program, you can write EdServices@emc.com for details.
