Hi - I made this a new thread because you're asking two interesting questions. The first question (what is the passing score for the ISM exam) was answered here.

You can search through the discussions for an answer to your second question (tips for passing the exam). You may want to start with this thread by Sebastian, he documented his experience of studying for the exam.

Anyone else have a suggestion for Robin?

From a program perspective, we always recommend that certification candidates look here    to find much of what they need to prepare for the ISM exam.

The exam description describes the topics covered in the exam, anyone studying should use the exam description to be sure that they can explain each of the topics described.

The free practice test is also on this page.  The best way to use the practice exam is to:

  • Learn (whatever way you choose....ILT, ISM book etc.) and study
  • Review the exam description and work through each of the topics to ensure that you're familiar and comfortable with each
  • Take the free practice exam
  • Use the practice test feedback to idenitfy any areas you may need to study additionally

Passing the practice test doesn't guarantee that you'll pass the certification exam, but it's a great tool for you to determine your readiness.

Hope that helps!

My tip is the Thorough Study of ISM Book by EMC. Having your basic SAN NAS Concepts clear. I can guarantee you that if you will read the ISM Book thoroughly  you can surely pass the EXAM.

Agreed, the book is a must for this exam. It's funny that guys would pay so much for test cheats and not buy this book. It is such a deal and has all you need. I would suggest holding off on taking the practice test until after you have gone through the book once. Then you will have a good idea of where you are at. A word of warning, if you see a question on the practice test, it will not show up on the real test ;-)

I just took and passed the test earlier this week.  Seemed the passing score needed is just over 60%.
