Meet EMC Proven Professional: Brian Feeny

Brian developed a passion for networking early in his career.  After gaining broad technical expertise at an ISP in the early 90’s, he went to work for Coleman Technologies (now Presidio Networked Solutions).  As a professional services company focused on advanced technology, more and more relevance was being placed on Data Center technologies and the unification of network, server and storage components.  In order to stay current with the challenges his customers were facing, as well as the best design and implementation solutions, Brian began to learn as much as possible about Storage and Virtualization.

As part of this learning process, Brian built a personal lab that included a full suite of VMWare virtualization as well as numerous virtual storage appliances.  Being an EMC partner, he had access to physical EMC storage arrays, both on site in his office and remotely.  Reading the material available on EMC’s website and going through numerous storage labs helped Brian to deepen his understanding of storage technology and enabled him to expand his lab.

Over the years, Brian has learned as much as possible about the EMC portfolio, taking advantage of the EMC SE Accreditation program and training, which provided a very good overview of EMC technologies.  He later went more in depth by achieving the Technology Architect, EMC Storage & Information Infrastructure - Commercial Specialist (EMCTA) certification and then tackling product specific certifications for CLARiiON and Celerra.  Building on his knowledge of storage networking, Brian was one of earliest candidates to achieve Data Center Architect, Storage Networking Design Specialist certification (EMCDCA).  Currently Brian holds 7 EMC Proven Professional certifications across multiple certification tracks; including the Cloud Architect, Virtualized Infrastructure  Specialist (EMCCA) certification.  He plans to achieve the Cloud Architect, IT-as-a-Service Expert (EMCCAe) certification when it becomes available next year.

Brian continually seeks out the latest in training/certification opportunities to ensure he and his engineering team can deliver the best solutions to their customers.  He has found EMC to be one of the only companies to offer open curriculum training on topics such as Cloud, IT-as-a-Service, as well as the basic storage concepts, etc. with information that comes directly from industry respected standards organizations.

In addition to his certification plans, Brian is beginning graduate studies this spring at Harvard University.  When he’s not busy with networking and storage (and studying!), Brian enjoys playing the guitar, piano, mountain biking and working out.  Check out his personal website at www.feeny.org.
