Is EMCSA the right step forward

Dear Community Members,

I have been working on the functional QA of Storage Arrays for quite some time. I would really like to shape my career as a Symmetrix support engineer/ Storage Admin/ Implementation engineer. I haven't taken any proven certifications yet but now its high time.  I'm planning to start with EMCSA(E20-517) since I have worked on Solutions Enabler, SMC, TimeFinder Mirror/Clone & Snap, SRDF technologies, Open Replicator and a bit on FAST. Can you please let me know if EMCSA is the right step forward to acheive this? I see that ISM is a pre-requisite for EMCSA but I plan on taking it after EMCSA.

Thanks very much,

Aby.

Hello Aby -

The next step you take depends on your organization and the role or roles you will perform.

  • UNAFFILIATED CANDIDATE - If you are unaffiliated, consider either the Cloud Architect track or the Data Center Architect track. The exams and associated training for these certifications focus on technology concepts and principles applicable to any storage vendor environment.  These tracks have been specially developed to validate the planning and design skills of IT storage consultants.  They are ideal for professionals who assist organizations that are planning to implement cloud or provide cloud-based IT services.

  • EMC CUSTOMER - If you're an EMC customer, there are three to consider.  The Storage Administrator track is for individuals who will use and administer the EMC solution.  The other two are the Cloud Architect and Data Center Architect tracks.  These are not product based tracks.  The exams and associated training focus on technology concepts and principles applicable to any storage vendor environment.  These tracks have been specially developed to validate the planning and design skills of IT storage consultants.  They are ideal for professionals who assist organizations that are planning to implement cloud or provide cloud-based IT services.

  • PARTNER EMPLOYEE - If you're a partner, speak with your manager and the EMC Channel Account Manager.  EMC Partners have contractual obligations to get a certain number of employees certified.  Your manager should let you know if your certification achievement needs to be counted against that obligation.

  • EMC EMPLOYEE - If you're an EMC employee, speak with your manager. Certifications are role-based so you and your manager should determine together the specific role you should prepare for.

Please also note that while you can take our exams in any order, a candidate must achieve Associate level certification before Specialist certification can be achieved.
