EMC E20-001 Self-study?

Hello,

I am interested in achieving my EMC E20-001 Certification. I wanted to know if it is mandatory to register for the EMC course or could I do a self-study using the EMC ISM book available at the bookstore and appear for the exam. In other words is attending the EMC course a pre-requiste to achieving the certification?

Thanks,

Sameer.

I am pretty sure you can do as you say.  However, if you look at the starter kit they offer, that includes the exam voucher, a discount on the book and a VILT for ISM, so its a pretty good deal.  Also combine that with the fact that if you declare an advocate, they can get $200 upon your success!

Hello Sameer -

bfeeny's comment is true the advocacy program offers a great deal giving you the VILT and voucher for the exam and the ISM book for additional studies/quick reference.

The training for this exam is recommended not required so if you choose you can sit for the exam without doing the recommended ILT or eLearnings. Although  the ISM book is not on the exam description document it is an approved, endorsed, and recommended source to prepare for the ISM exam

I understand your point ddProven, but I think there needs to be a clear distinction between "recommended" by EMC Education and "recommended" by the general Storage Admin population.

I most certainly don't represent the opinion of EMC Education (or any part of EMC since I'm a customer), but I would absolutely recommend the ISM book as a study aid for anyone with real world EMC storage experience looking to take the ISM exam without attending an official course. As I've said elsewhere, I've been working with EMC Storage for many years, but the book allowed me to focus on a few of the points I don't deal with every day and "bone up" on those topics prior to writing the exam.

Allen your comments are spot on. Because of this thread and others like it EMC Proven Team is already working on a clarification for "what is the best way to study for the E20-001".
