Certification, from where to start ?

Hi,

I'm new in the world of SAN and I am looking to be a professional. I was advised by a lot of my co-workers to choose EMC and I want to be certified but I don't know from where to start, my company can pay the exams for me and I need to convince my manager.

Please advise me and inform what is the path to follow.

Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the EMC Proven Professional community!  Sounds like you're getting some great advice!

Where to begin depends, to a degree, on your role.  However, EMC's Information Storage and Management curriculum and exam is a good place to start.

More information regarding the exam (E20-001) and the available curriculum for this certification can be found here.  Be sure to check out the EMC Proven Professional Starter Kit which offers curriculum and an exam voucher at a discount of 72%.

Other members of our community have commented on how they prepared for this exam here and here.

Please let us know if you have further questions.  And keep us updated on your progress!

Kind regards,
Debi

It seems that with the EMC cert tracks, unlike MS and to some degree Cisco, certs don't build upon each other.

Its like the only common test is the intro test. After that you have to make the decision which track you are going to pursue. As someone in a engineering role looking to go into professional services role in the future, I'm not quite sure where I should start after the intro. The Architect track seems like where I want to be but thats way over my head at this point. I want to be able to work towards that level. Also this is self funded so I don't want to pigeon hole myself so to speak.

Welcome to the Proven Community!  The EMC Proven Professional certification program is designed as a role based program because we view certification as representation of readiness to perform a role.  A role based program takes into account a number of factors that are unique to a specific role.  Within each role, it is possible to build upon previously earned certifications by moving through our Associate, Specialist and Expert certifications.

Access to the training curriculums offered by EMC is dependent upon your affiliation with us (customer, partner, individual).  There are 2 tracks with a training curriculum open to anyone; Cloud Architect & Data Center Architect.

If you are a partner or customer and opt to pursue either the Storage Administrator or Implementation Engineer certification, you will find that the knowledge base gained there provides for a smoother transition into an Architect role.

For more information specific to your goals, you can click on the “Free Training Consultation” Link under “Send a Request” on our Education Portal.

Best of luck to you!  And let us know what direction you decide to pursue!

Thanks Debi,

So where does the "Platform Engineer" role fall in the path Administrator > Implementation > Architect???

Hello –

The Platform Engineer role focuses on the troubleshooting and maintenance of the core EMC network storage infrastructure.  More detail regarding the exams for this track can be found here.  The curriculum, however, is offered only to Partners and Employees.

I'm a bit confused about the EMCDCA and EMCCA tracks.

Do you have to pass all the specialist level exams to achive the certification, or only 1?

Hello - there are 4 Specialist level certifications within the EMC Data Center Architect track.  Each Specialist certification can be achieved by fulfilling the Associate level requirement and passing the Specialist exam for the certification you are pursuing.

For instance, to achieve Data Center Architect, Storage Networking Design Specialist certification, a candidate would need to fulfill the Associate level requirement and pass the Storage Networking Design Specialist Exam for DataCenter Architects (E20-016) exam.

Hi Debi,

I am working as an EMC administrator for last 5 years.

Now I am planning to complete Data centre architect for Storage .I am already a proven Implementation specialist .

Recently I completed VNX deployment & Management training. Where should I contact to get some training or preparation material for this certification .Immediately purchasing an EMC training is not possible.

Thanks in advance
