Can I do EMCTA directly ? Done ETF before.

Hi,
I am currently working as a SAN Administrator, mainly on Symmetrix - DMX as well as VMAX,doing Storage allocations/de allocations/some good exposure to SRDF, doing thin/FAST VP allocations/configuring and administering  Symmetrix Optimizer etc. Also familiar with Cisco Switches Zoning/Basic Troubleshooting.
Finished ETF (EMC Technology Foundations) sometime in year 2006/2007, so is it possible for me to appear for EMCTA directly or do I have to do ISM first?
Is it possible to do EMCTA first and then take ISM?
I need to complete EMCTA mainly because it will make me more familiar with the advanced topics and help me get a better and higher technical role.

Hello - there are no restrictions in our program that would require you to take an Associate level exam before sitting for a Specialist level exam.

However, Specialist level certification can only be achieved by meeting all of the requirements, Associate certification being one.

Your ETF certification may satisfy the Associate certification requirement but I would recommend that you contact EdServices@emc.com.  If you provide your name, email address and CertTracker ID they'll be able to review your specific situation and advise on the necessary requirements.

Best of luck to you!  We'd love to hear updates on your EMCTA certification progress!

Hi Debi,

Thank you for taking time to reply.

Does this mean that I can straight away appear for EMCTA?

I have mailed the edservices team, I think I mailed to India_Education@emc.com two days ago. I did not provide my cert tracker ID so not sure how they will track.

I didn't understand what you meant by "However, Specialist level certification can only be achieved by meeting all of the requirements, Associate certification being one." Could you please elaborate?

Thank you once again for your time.

Hi, EMC Proven Professional certifications are based on accumulative knowledge so you would also need to hold a valid Associate level credential (like E20-001) in order to meet all of the requirements for the Specialist level credential.

In looking at the EMCTA Symmetrix Specialist certification, these would be the requirements:

Specialty:

Symmetrix Solutions
(Symmetrix Family)

Associate Level

E20-001 ISM Exam

Specialist Level:

E20-515 Symmetrix Solutions Specialist Exam for Technology Architects
and
E20-326 Symmetrix Solutions Design Exam for Technology Architects

Expert Level:

E20-816 Symmetrix Solutions Expert Exam for Technology Architects

In order to achieve the EMCTA Symmetrix Specialist certification, a candidate would need to hold a valid Associate certification and pass both the E20-515 and E20-326 exams.  In order to achieve EMCTA Symmetrix Expert certification, a candidate must meet all the Specialist level requirements and pass the E20-816 exam.

EdServices will definitely be able to assist you with determining if your ETF certification will meet the Associate level requirements for the certification you are pursuing.

Good luck!
