Oh NOW I see you Michelle!
I'm Gina, I already talked about my certs in this thread, but I have 2 EMC Proven Professional certifications, the EMCIE and the EMCTA for (both for SAN).
I work for EMC Education Services in Franklin MA as a course developer. I used to be on the SAN team, and one course I was responsible for was the SAN Management course. Now I work for the team that supports the Smarts products, and I work mainly on Voyence courseware.
I love technical education so much that I am getting my Master's degree in Instructional Systems and I blog about it here (I blog alot!). I can't wait to see how this community grows.
Michelle, you shouldn't be shy - you should introduce yourself too!

My name is Lynn Ragan. Sorry no pictures yet. I hold the following EMC certifications:
Clariion > EMCIEe and EMCTA
NAS> EMCIE specialist
Commercial > EMCTA
I am a partner engineer in the ASN program and have been doing PreSales and PostSales implementations in the field.
I've just been looking over this board and seems like there are some nice things going on here.
Best regards.

Hi Lynn,
Great to see you out here on ECN. On behalf of the ASN team here, thanks for your commitment to EMC as evidenced by your numerous certifications.
Have you checked out the Partner Technical Xchange community yet? It's for ASN partners in good standing only and is still in beta. As we continue developing the community in preparation for it's official launch, we would certainly like to hear any suggestions, particularly from our partners, on how we can make this community beneficial and a success. Please feel free to share your thoughts.
Also, I see that you have completed your Commercial TA certification. Congratulations. There was recently a discussion threadstarted in the PTX aimed at helping folks through the process of achieving this certification. If you have any suggestions or feedback to share, we'd love to hear it.
Thanks,
Michela

Hello Lynn. Thanks for the post.
It is interesting to see individuals like yourself who have attained several EMC certifications. Do you have other (non EMC) certifications, and how do they compare in terms of your job role? How would you characterize the benefit or connection between the certifications that you have achieved and your ability to get the job done...whatever that is? I am the community manager here (Proven Professional community) and am always interested in the personal motivations for people in our industry.
Thanks again.

Interesting question. I feel that the cert has a direct bearing on my ability to get the job done...when you look at the whole picture of what a partner does in the field. There are a million hardware vendors out there, some competitors external to EMC and some internal. The VARS that I have worked for struggle hard to find a market in order to stay afloat. The cert levels allow me to put critical services into the field - and that translates directly into gross profit for the firm. It's important when I line up my yearly education goals that they align with where the market demand is going, what product lines are available through the channel, and how I can provide a significant enough value add to close the deal in the face of overwhelming odds from big name volume dealers - and we know who they are.
Since EMC took the preferable position of not tracking service oriented dollars at the District Manager level, this allows engineers in the field like me to drive revenue in a big way. By the way, that helps enormously justify the costs included in an ASN ramp up - and thos costs are significant. So as stated earlier, the TA certs allow me to participate meaningfully in the preSales cycle, instill some customer confidence in the overall solution set being presented, and then be there to help deliver what was promised.
If my certs were strictly focused on turning the wrench, then my value add would be greatly reduced. I don't know if this helps, but to me the certs are very real. I wish there was some way to enhance the message that these are not trivial certs as are sometimes found in other technical disciplines. A big part of that message is the mentoring requirement - which I don't think gets enough air time.
So from my perspective, getting the job done is so much more than just being able to install stuff. It's the sales, it's helping my sales team understand what they are positioning, it's helping develop a solution which meets the customer need while at the same time eliminating competitors, ...it's driving revenue.
Sorry,...I guess I got long winded there...
Best regards,
Lynn Ragan

Excellent answer. It sounds like you would be a strong recommender for "wrench turners" to participate in systems design and planning training to round out their skill sets and add value to themselves and their organization. Confidence leads to peace of mind and the assurance that the solutions (which are in fact complex) will deliver good ROI.
Thanks again for the insight.

Thanks for initiating this post. I am a newbie to EMC world.
I am currently working on EMC Clariion products and thinking of getting certified.
Does EMC offer a priviledge sign on on their website to EMC proven professionals like some other OEM do?
Is there any validity period for certification level you attend?
Any priviledge(s) offered to people who earn Specialist level certifications? maybe allowed to join in ASN?
Thanks a lot
Sam

Hello Sam,
It's so nice to see that you've found our new community!
EMC Proven Professional certification has so many benefits, I'll try to tell you a bit about them here but you might also want to follow this link to see our logos https://education.emc.com/main/internal/knowledgesharing/logos.htm, or go to www.education.emc.com and select certification to learn everything you need to know about getting certified.
There are three levels of accomplishment within the EMC Proven Professional program:
Once you achieve certification, it's valid indefinitely. We do, though, highly recommend that you maintain your knowledge particularly by using the Knowledge Maintenance modules and associated tests.
I hope I've been helpful. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.

Hello Michelle,
Greatly appreciate your time for replying in here. The website and the details certainly helped, Thanks a lot.
The contents are well defined and organised for each level of certification. The benefits also looks good.
In a cerification details, it will help if there a tab for "Next level" which one can go to once the certification is acquired.
I wish EMC offereing a special sign on for certified people maybe for knowledgebase etc..
Thanks
Sam
