Are online courses enough to pass E20-001?

Hi Liz,

I'm wondering if you could give your opinion as to whether or not the ISM Book is required to pass the E20-001 exam.

I'm a consultant with ~12 years of experience and have been doing pre-sale and post-sale work with storage solutions exclusively now for almost 3 years.

I purchased the online courses for ISM as well as the CAS line.

Are the online courses and associated Student Materials "enough" to pass the E20-001 exam?

regards,

Joseph

Hello Joe,

I can say this.

1. ISM book is a very good reference book not to just help pass the exam but for information storage in general.

2. ISM online training stuff is probably more in detail on certain areas to the ISM book.

3. There is always the practice exam you can try at anytime to give yourself a good idea of where you stand in a testing capacity.

Your own knowledge may be enough for you to pass the exam, the materials (book or online training) is a tool to help you better prepare for the exam.

Another tool to help is by coming on here and asking a question off of what you are trying to learn. The community is great and can get most of your answers answered... somehow I asked for the exam questions ahead of time and those posts get deleted before ever going public..lol (JK)

I say go over your training & take the practice exam.

I plan on taking my exam for the E20-001 during EMC World (if paying out of your own pocket there's a discount for taking it then) Here's what I have been doing

I read the ISM Book.

I have access to online training Modules

I take the practice exam.

Now if you are ready to test this is what I do when testing

I read the question read answers if I don't have a possible clue I mark it for review and move on.

Reason I do this is to keep an open mind when going back to review that question I am not partial to the answer chosen. Personally I don't like doubt my 1st choice either right or wrong.

So to answer your final question "Are the online courses and associated Student Materials "enough" to pass the E20-001 exam?" Yes it could very well be enough.

Hope you do well and welcome to the community and working on achieving your certification!!

Joseph,

You got some very good answers from community members but I will also chime in.  The ISM book is one of our many study tools for the ISM exam.  The ISM eLearning is also a very good tool.  Either is aligned to the test, and cover similar content areas.  So, with the ISM eLearning you should be all set.

Liz

Hi - I branched your comment into a discussion of its own and moved it to the Proven Advisor area of the community.

Thanks for all the replies..they have been helpful.

I just wanted to feel comfortable attempting the E20-001 without the use of the book by asking the community.

Having prior experience in the industry usually helps your success rate when it comes to the basic certifications that are a requirement to get to TA or IE but occasionally you run into those intro tests that are a beast and seem only to test on content from a book and not practical knowledge.

thanks again!

Joe
