Any EMC Proven Professional Associates out there?

I'm looking to connect with some Associate-level certified folks to learn more about how your certification has helped you on the job.  If you've taken the Information Storage and Management (ISM) course, and would like to help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Hello,

i have made the ISM exam in dezember 2008. This was a great thing, because it helped me to get my new job at the german distibutor Orchestra.

My next step is de learn more about the EMC hardware, especially CLARiiON and Celerra systems. Because of this i will visit the proven professional courses to get the technology architect and implementation engineer specialist title. The first training will start nexr week, so im very exciting.

David, that's so exciting!  We always love to hear stories about how earning an EMC Proven Professional certification can help people get jobs or progress in their careers. Can you tell us more about that?  Did the position require certification?  Or did you talk about it during your interviews?

Best of luck on your specialist courses and exams, and on your new position!

First thanx for your wishes, I will do my best to mak ea good job.

The EMC certification was not a requirement, but we talked about it in the interview and I think it has helped me to get the job.

Let me tell you why. My employer works with EMC products over years, but has specialized on software products like networker fomer legato. We have a lot of specialistst in this area, but not realy in the hardware segment. As i come from the hardware side, and have the certification, now we are going to push the hardware market as strong as we can. And i think EMC makes it realy good to get the knowlege of their products as they give you the chance to do the trainings, eLearning and so on.

Hi David,

I work for a German Disti also, in the UK office .I completed my EMCTA for Clariion not so long ago..  it has helped me massively, although just to give you a heads up.. in any TA track you have to do the solution design exam E20-322, be prepared to have to answer questions on products you will most likely not encounter in the tier 2 disti channel, as well as products you will encounter...   key area's would be :

SRDF (DMX replication)

open replicator

open migrator

SDMS (symmetrix data migration service)

legacy Celerra,clariion kit

3 C's (Clariion, Celerra, Centera)

Netwoker...

you specify whether you work with commercial or enterprise accounts when doing the exam, but don't let that fool you..   there's stil plenty of questions on the enterprise type products...

Anyway..   Good luck

Hi David,

I did my course at Schwalbach also and yes they're right...   the documents I would suggest laying you're hands on are :

Clariion best practice guides (FLARE 24,26 and28)

Clariion Quick refence guides

Mirrorview, SANCopy and Snapview knowledgebooks and best practice guides

Reserve LUN pool configuration best practice guide

Also I would dig out the courseware from you Storage technology foundations course as alot of the bits regarding SAN topologies and FC frame info are covered in the 322 exam.

get you're self clued up on QOS policies and threshold types, NAVI Anayser and the different screens (ie survey screen, performance summary, etc...),

In answer to your question...   no the courseware alone is very good, but won't be enough.

Hope this helps

Hello Ev,

thanks a lot for this inforrmation, i think this will help me a lot. Otherwise I would have ignored some of this themes I guess ;-)

At this moment I am sitting in Frankfurt/Schwalbach at the EMC training center, doing the Clariion Host Integration, SnapView and MirrorView classes.

But our instructor already said, that the course material would be not enough to pass the first exam E20-520.

He said that it would be necessary to learn the "Best Practice Guide" and the"Connectivity Guides". Is this what you have done, too?

Regards

David
