Win XP fatal error with 1100MP projector

I'm using the 1100MP with a Gateway laptop. With Win XP in "hibernation", once the 1100MP is started and Win XP is brought online the computer crashes with a "fatal error" message. At that point the screen shows a countdown of the physical memory dump. When that completes, Win XP restarts and the computer and projector operate normally. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to correct it? Thanks!
