Strange problem with 5100MP lamp
Hello,
in december 2005 i purchased a 5100MP projector. I used it - not very frequent - when suddenly in october 2006 the projector said that the lamp was defective and the warning light was lit to indicate the lamp was defective. This happened after the lamp had only 11 hours!! This isn't quite normal. What would happen was that when i start the projector, it would give the image for a few minutes and then state that the lamp was defective.
So i called Dell support, they told me the lamp was no longer under warranty (90 days i believe) and they wouldn't consider there was a problem with the projector, so i had to buy a new lamp. Which i did. So i received the new lamp, placed it in, and the projector worked again.
Until yesterday. We wanted to use the projector, and set it up. Alas, after a few minutes it said the same thing: Lamp defective, and the warning light was on. This is after the new lamp, bought end 2006 has 14 hours!! This is really not amusing. Everytime we start up the projector, it gives the image for a few minutes, and then it gives the error.
Now what we found was the following: if we put the projector in economy mode, we didn't have the problem. It has run for an hour in economy mode without the warning. However, the image is less bright in this mode. And i can't accept a new projector (it has hardly been used for 25 hours) not to be able to work in all it's modes.
Also in this forum i found a tip to set "High altitude" on in the Management menu, to enable a second vent (because maybe the projector overheats?) but it's not there in the menu of my projector. Is it possible i have an older version?
Is there anyone who knows what's the matter? If i call Dell, will they again say i have to buy a new lamp? As far as i can imagine, my first lamp (luckily i didn't throw it away!) isn't damaged either. I guess it must be a problem with the projector.
Any help anyone?
I hope this can be solved, because otherwise i love this projector: very very good image etc... But then again, that's why i bought this one...
Thx in advance
Thomas
