S500wi wireless disconneted

I have an S500wi projector and I cannot activate the wireless settings. The menu item under advanced settings---->wireless/lan settings is greyed out. I also attempted to do a firmware upgrade but the first part of the upgrade where I have to use the mini USB connection fails even though I have installed the drivers on my laptop. The DELL flasher app still show USD disconnected.

Please help activate the wireless settings and how I should do the firmware upgrade.
