s500wi Shenanigans

Hi Everyone, first time poster.

Firstly, our Dell s500wi projectors are fantastic, but I have a few small problems I would LOVE some help resolving!

1) On random occasions, the dell program used to connect to the projectors does not work; throwing up the message "check firewall settings". Now I've checked Windows Firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection and they both allow it through on all types of network. The projectors themselves are cabled through our network, not thier own wireless. Where else should I look to troubleshoot it?

2)When the wireless projection program is opened it looks for wireless networks (finds each WAP we have... so it lists about 40...). We close this, as we are already connected to the network the projectors are connected to. After about 10 seconds, it brings up an area to manually input an IP address, Username and Login code. This is also not needed, as the computers are stationary in thier rooms, and always connect to the same projector. Is there a way to make the Dell program bypass the connect to wireless network menu, and also is there a way to automate the IP connect part as well?

Thankyou for your time.

Cren.

I would also like to know how to skip the wireless network screen and automatically enter the IP of the projector.

There is a file in the same directory as the Dell S500wi.exe application called wps.ini. It seems that this file was intended to help with avanced configuration. If I set my projector not to have a login code and set LoginFirstDevice=true in wps.ini it will connect automatically. However, I do want a login code on the projector.

I have 2 of the Dell S500wi projectors and I can't seem to the the LoginCode= value in wps.ini to work or find a way to specify the IP of the projector.

This doesn't really resolve your issue, but maybe it will help you on your journey.

This solution took me a few days, but I came out victorious!

The Dell s500wi projector software is essentially the same as the software used with the Liteshow projector. It is so similar, in fact, you can use the lightshow software with your dell projector. The liteshow software can be download here or just google liteshow 3 download. The liteshow software supports profiles, which include stuff like setting the IP of the projector you are connecting to, audio settings, screen resolution etc.

Through the use of the liteshow software the computer now automatically connects to the projector and starts projecting.
