Projector stopped working with Inspiron 9300 laptop

Question

My Inspiron 9300 runs Windows XP. Today, it refused to send signal to the projector. Until today it was regularly displaying through this projector every day.

It still seems like sending a signal to the projector (drops to low resolution from 1920x1200 in the "both screens" mode and turns blank in the "projector only" mode) but the projector gets no signal.

The projector works with another computer.

Any ideas why this happens and -most importantly- how it can be cured?

I have exactly the same problem with my Inspiron 6400, only it is intermittent. The projector may display for a few minutes and then lose the signal. It will sometimes return if I alter the angle of the laptop screen. I'm wondering if it may be caused by a loose wire or not enough memory. It has worked faultlessly for the past two years until now.
