M409WX with some ambient light

I received a Dell M409WX a few days ago. The portability is sensational. And in movie mode the colors are really good in a darkened room. However when I have to use it during the day where ambient light can't be completely blocked out, the colors seem washed out. Granted that will happen to some degree with any projector. The question is whether I could expect significantly better performance in that situation from a 3LCD projector, or only slightly better? Has anyone compared this or a M209WX or similar projector to a 3LCD to offer any thoughts. From what I've read the 3LCD should handle this situation better than a DLP, but I'd be reluctant to change if the difference is slight because of the size and weight of this projector.
