M110: no sound?

Trying to understand if I am doing something wrong or if this is inherent to the projector.

When using my computer via USB dongle, I get video but no sound thru projector.  Same if I am using a source thru VGA.  Ideas?

Neither VGA nor USB send or recieve audio. You have to connect speakers to whatever device is sending a signal to the M110 to get audio.

Connect a stereo mini-phone jack cable to the speakers/headphones output of PC and to A/V input of M110. Sound is usable and beats hauling external speakers.

Can an Xbox be connected and get sound as well?

USB Dongle - I didn't end up buying one of these, but after watching a few videos and reviews, it seems like the USB Dongle is more for presentations rather than video(?).

VGA Cable - This I'm sure about; The VGA cable that came with the M110 and all other VGA cables does not send any audio data through the cable. HDMI supports audio, once you plug this one in, you will have to change the sound output on your computer from local (your computer) to the projector. Easiest way on Windows vista/7/8 is to press the windows key > type in 'sound' > select 'sound' under the Control Panel list. There should be a list of playback devices - just select the one you want the sound to come out from and 'set as default'.
