Intermittent HDMI on DELL S500 projector
I bought the S500 projector for my wife to use in her classroom. The HDMI signal gets lost. One day she is using the projector fine and the next day it says it can't find signal for the HDMI source. She changes source VGA and it shows but when she goes back to HDMI it says there is no signal. I unscrew the side cable cover and remove the HDMI cable from the projector and push it back in and there is a "pop" and now it can find the signal. Then it works for several days and then it stops working.
Is something wrong with the HDMI cable or the HDMI connection or the projector or what?
BTW, Apple TV 3 is plugged into the projector with HDMI and she mirrors to the ATV from her iPad, if that makes any difference.

Hi SteveS04,
Intermittent HDMI issue on the projector may be due to an issue with the projector or a faulty HDMI cable or connector.
Let's try following steps:
1) HDMI connections don't fit as tight as component or composite video connections and can slip out sometimes if equipment is moved slightly. Ensure that the connections are well seated.
2) Try using a known good HDMI cable.
3) Try connecting the same cable to another HDMI input device.
4)Try reversing the sequence in which you power on the devices.
5) Please capture the status of light on Lamp light. Is it solid amber or blinking amber when the black out happens?
6) Also capture the status of Temp light. Is it solid amber or blinking amber when the blackout happens ?
7) Use Test Pattern / Factory Reset in the Projector Settings of the Advanced Settings menu. Ensure that the colors of the test pattern are correct. (Refer to image below)
8) Ensure that the lamp is securely installed. (Re seat to make sure)
Before re seating the lamp follow the safety instructions below:
CAUTION: The lamp becomes very hot when in use. Do not attempt to replace the lamp until the projector has been allowed to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
CAUTION: Do not touch the bulb or the lamp glass at any time. Projector lamps are very fragile and may shatter if touched. The shattered glass pieces are sharp and can cause injury.
CAUTION: If the lamp shatters, remove all broken pieces from the projector and dispose or recycle according to state, local, or federal law.
Steps to Re seat the lamp:
- Turn off the projector and disconnect the power cord.
- Let the projector cool for at least 30 minutes.
- Loosen the one screw that secure the lamp cover, and remove the cover.
- Loosen the one screw that secures the lamp.
- Pull the lamp up by its metal handle.
- Re seat the lamp.
- Tighten the two screws that secure the lamp.
- Replace the lamp cover and tighten the one screw.
- Reset the lamp usage time by selecting "Yes" for Lamp Reset in the OSD Power Settings of the Advanced Setting menu (Lamp menu). When a new lamp module has been changed, the projector will automatically detect and reset the lamp hours.
- Replace the lamp when the message "Lamp is approaching the end of its useful life in the operation. Replacement suggested! www.dell.com/lamps" appears on the screen. If this problem persists after replacing the lamp.
