Help with my 4100MP Projector: Lamp Failure

New to using projectors, so my question may seem very elementary.

 

I recenly had a problem where I power the unit up, the "Dell" screen projects and the countdown at the top begins to count backwards.  In some cases, everything is fine and I will start playing a video, then the bulb goes out, with the screen indicating a Lamp Failure.

 

In other cases, the "Dell" screen comes up and the countdown begins.  When it gets to"1" on the countdown, the bulb goes out and the screen indicates Lamp Failure.

 

Common sense would indicate to me that a Lamp Failure would mean that the bulb needs to be replaced.  However, I am curious to learn why the "Dell" screen comes up, and in some cases, I am able to roject a video.

 

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

1)  How old is the unit?

2)  When, if ever, has it been opened to thoroughly vacuum dust the interior?

3)  Has the capacitor been examined to determine if it is in the process of becoming,  or has become, defective?
