Dell MP1800 with VGA Cable - Resolution Question...

I have a Dell MP1800 hooked up to my computer with a 25 ft. VGA Cable, ( I was running an s-video cable, but the text on the screen was too hard to read).  The projected image does look better with the VGA cable plugged into my VGA-A port on the back of the projector.  I use a DVI plug for my computer monitor...  I have the MP1800 projecting onto an 84" screen and the throw is approx 13 Ft.

The native/default resolution on both my computer monitor and my Dell MP1800 LCD projector is set to 1024X768.

My computer system is an AMD Athlon 64 Bit dual core 2.4, with a PCIExpress 512 Vid Card, (GS7600), 4 GB of DDR2 RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive and a 19" Monitor.  The operating system on the computer is Windows XP, Rev. 2, totally updated drivers etc...

When I view pictures with ACDSee they look fantastic on my monitor, yet they don't look very good on the projected image using the MP1800.  There are 'shiny' spots on the foreheads of people in the photos.

I set the 'auto adjust' on the remote for the projector, but there is no change.  My video mode is set to PC and my aspect ratio is set to 4:3 which usually fills the screen.  I realized that having the aspect ratio set to 4:3 may have caused the projected image to 'pixillate', so I have tried adjusting the aspect ratio to 16:9 or 1:1, but with the 1:1 aspect ratio the pictures are quite a bit smaller on the screen.  I use the projector to show several people the photos at once as opposed to everyone gathering around my computer monitor.  No matter what the aspect ratio, the projected image is still not acceptable...

How can I get the projected image to show the same resolution and quality as the image on my computer monitor?

Also, when I play a movie or television program through the computer and project it with the MP1800, the resolution automatically changes on the projector to that of the movie or television program I am viewing, which is usually a lot less resolution than 1024X768.  Typically the resolution of a movie is only 785X420 or less.  The best I have seen is 800X600, but it is still not good enough.

Is there a way to set the projected resolution to 1024X768, regardless of what I am viewing?

The photos I am viewing are a minimum of 1024X768, and most of the time are much higher in resolution, because I have the resolution on my digital camera set to best, (***) and 5 MP...

Hopefully someone can help me out with this one...

flenneau,

You should be testing the projector using the 6' cable we provided. Move the PC closer to the projector and test everything again.
