Dell MP 2300 Projector

I am glad to see that i am one of many who is having the same lamp problem with the 2300.  We purchased ours for our church and have not had anything but problems with it.  we only use it about 30 minutes once a week.  Ours started giving problem 2 weeks out of warrenty and nothing is being done about it.  Just wondering when Dell is going to realize they have a problem with this machine.

Yes, ours was purchased for our church also. The first one was replaced after about 40 hours on the bulb. In '05 Dell sent a replacement bulb first, which didn't fix the problem, and then a refurb machine, without extending the warranty. Of course, it has now expired, and so has the refurb machine, with the same issues. With only 120+ hours on the bulb, On Sunday morn it would not power on, and after about 2 minutes, the lamp light would turn on.

I'm not at all pleased with the level of service on this, considering that there is an obvious flaw in these projectors - a flaw that under different circumstances would warrant a recall, or certainly some sort of action on Dell's part. We are now stuck with an $1100 paper weight and no projector that works.

had you had any solutions? I've just experienced the same situation on my 2300MP, only about 400 hours of use at the church. it shut itself off a few times when we first turned it on and then seemed to  reset itself after we unplugged it and then was fine for the rest of the service

No Disrespect to Dell but you get what you pay for. Anytime a manufacturer does not stand behind its product for longer than a year that's a red flag to me.  In a church environment you need a machine that's reliable and long lasting.  If you need a recommendation let me know.

Same problem, I too am disappointed in Dell. They have discontinued the product, but are doing nothing for customers that are stuck with it.

Same problem here with lamp indicator shining red also after exchange of bulb.

Something is wrong with the 2300 MP projector.

I have used it around 40 hours during a time period of less than 18 months.

Have had the same problem- it's the Color Wheel but I haven't been able to get the part yet- Here is the original thread where I posted my problem- It might help! (Although there is discussion about the 2200 model, it is pertinent for the 2300 too.)

2300 victims,

I ordered a new bulb, and of course it burnt out instantly. Now I have a 90 day warranty on the bulb, so they are sending a replacement. How many times will Dell replace the bulb before realizing there is a problem?

Sounds like a joke but it isn't.

Has anyone gotten a solution to this problem? My projector just died with less than 100 hours on it.

Don't settle for anything less than total projector replacement. It took me almost 2 months, but finally got through to someone who actually spoke english as their first language and she didn't question it at all - sent out a new one admitting the terminal problems with the 2300. The new one was a 2400. apparently the 2300 is no longer in production. Any guesses why?! So far the 2400 is working better than the 2300, but with our light usage, I fear the same issue coming up in a few months. I hope I'm wrong.

exactly, but be sure you dont let the warranty expire, once that happens you dont matter anymore.
We got a 2300MP replacement and began having the same shut down problems. I called up for another replacement but insisted on the 2400MP upgrade, and finally got it although it is a "refurbished" unit AND we bought the extended warranty, for 3yrs. I liked the look of the 2300 better, but we have not had any problems now for almost 3 mos. Be sure you ask for an entire, complete set up with all cables.

what number did you dial to speak to someone that spoke english that you could understand?

I believe it was the general number and I got bounced around, all my paperwork is at another location, I spoke slowly and repeated things until I was sure we both understood, but I have found that at different times of the day you have better chance of getting someone in US, depending on the dept you need.
I first explained why they should give a new model:
I said this is a Dell Product flaw, it is a known problem that will continue and once the warranty expires it will become my problem, which is not right, and should not be replaced with same problem that is now a discountinued Product for that reason, AND the 2400MP is the SAME price, so they are not losing, (in fact its cheaper sometimes.)
I then requested a supervisor since they were not authorized for this, I did not speak directly to one, but they did confer and got it approved.
I'll see if I can locate the paperwork, this is the only number nearby: 866-808-9488

The 2400 took a little longer to get, but it is also brighter.

I don't know if I can get any answers here but a little over two years ago we purchased a Dell 2300 MP to use with our Powerpoint presentation in our Church. Initially we started with one projector and one screen but since our ceiling is so low and screen was behind the Choir, this presented a viewing problem. We decided to go with two projectors with a screen on each side of the Choir. We found at that time that the 2300 MP was discontinued and since we wanted two identical projectors we found one on eBay. The second unit we purchased was a used one. When we set it up, we notice that the second unit was not as bright as the first even though we set them up the same (brightness, mode, etc). Thinking that the unit being defective and since it was out of warranty we decided to purchase a new Dell 2300 MP on eBay. When we got the third unit and set it up, we found the same problem.
We had the two unit connect in series, VGA in from the PC to the first (original) unit then VGA out from that unit to VGA in on the second (new) unit. Thinking that runing the units in series was the problem we swapped the units. That didn't help. The second "new" unit was not as bright as our original unit. We even disconnected all inputs except the power cords and started it up and even in the Dell Start up screen, the original unit was brighter than the "new" unit. I haven't tried swapping the lamps in these two but I did in the first two and that didn't change anything.
I have not tried running the self diagnostic but does that indicates problems with the color wheel? How difficult is it to replace the color wheel if that is the problem?

ropertd,

I wish I had better news. I do not have any documentation on how to change the color wheel. All we do is exchange them while under warranty. All of the defective ones go back to the manufacturer for failure analysis.
