Dell M110 - Uneven focus across the entire screen

Hello *,

i have my M110 since a few weeks and noticed a fed bad things:

- no color management

- bad CA

- bekomes very hot

But the worst of all is the uneven focus across the entire screen, either the left, center, or right side were in sharp focus.

After calling the Dell Support i got a replacement projector - with the same problems.

i called the support again, and now i was told that this is "normal", all projectors of this type have the uneven focus.

Shortly said: no problem, works as designed.

Are there any users of the M110 which can adjust a sharp focus across the whole screen?

Anybody noticed this problem?

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi my friend,

I got this Dell Projector M110 yesterday and it took me just an hour to realize the problem. So, I searched 'dell m110 focus problem' and landed here.

I totally believe that this problem is caused by the production when the lens is not placed absolutely 90 degree of the light way. With slightly 0.01mm shift from the correct alignment, this can cause the problem.

I am here in Thailand so I can't just return and get refund like US people.

Will see what Dell will do and will come back here.

Totally bad luck for me,

Chai

Yesterday, the sell person did not contact me as promised so I call dell center today. The support say a new projector without a light bulb will be dispatched tomorrow and I need to take a light bulb from the old one to the new one. They say this will not void the warranty.

Still, I am not quite sure if the problem will be solved. I believe the angel of the lens can't be slightly different from one to another. My gut instinct told me that this is something wrong for the whole production.

Will see what may come.... sigh..... such a tough first time Dell experience. Hope not Hell experience....

A new projector came yesterday. A support officer misunderstood about service for this item so the new one came as a complete projector.

Unfortunately, the problem is still and worse than the first one. Focus is uneven randomly or perhaps on diagonal instead of vertical - really hard to confirm.

Project no1: (I didn't use tripod for taking a picture for the first one so the picture maybe a bit blur but you will get the idea.)

This is a picture illustrate that the left and right focus is uneven. (the picture is resized)

Some more comparison.

Project no2:

The problem is still there but slightly different and there is more problem.

A close up comparison.

On the bottom of the picture, the focus is fine on the left - see "Scripts". Interestingly, the middle area is so blue - see "Object" but it is better on the right - see "Options" (while the middle area on the top is better)

Could you let me know how uneven you have experienced on your projector?

Thank you,

Chai

I've the same issue... I bought the Dell M110 projector last Nov. 2011 and had it for almost 5 months, and I did noticed the uneven or soft area in the corner. I've been testing and tweaking to get about 80 to 90% acceptable sharp image. I'm hoping that the update/firmware will sort this problem for all of us.

I believe it is a quality issue. (guess from lens) so quite sure no firmware could fix that.

After received the third projector, there is still the problem. Now the supports mentioned that they now see the problem themselves but ridiculously 'this is a small projector' sound like 'the problem is not a problem'. Then support center just throw the issue back to myself claiming that only sell officer can decide what to do. They won't resent the forth projector for replacement.

After wasting more time with sell officer, they mentioned that they will arrange dell pick-up and proceed refund. Now, 3 days have passed and still no sign.

I personally charge back a day before they came up with the solution, so I hope finally I will get my money back either by refund or charge back.

Update:

yesterday i got a new replacement beamer from Dell.

and... it's a new one (not a refurbished device) with Rev A02 (the defective device was Rev A01)

I have no idea what's changed from Rev A01 to A02 but it seems that the focus issue is much better now (not gone!)

This is not a related questions, but I could not find anything similar. I bought a Dell Projector M110 under the impression that it was wireless, meaning the actual projector is rechargeable and wireless. Does anyone know if I could boy additional parts to make it happen?

Just got my M110.  It's a beautiful design but......

The uneven focus issue is really bad.  It looks to be a real design defect.

I am going to try and return it, as it really is too much of a distraction to just deal with it.

The rev verion is A5, and the post above are A1/2.  Dell engineering really dropped the ball on this one.

Regards,

Joe

Yes, it is. Dell try to give me a couple of new units, but they are the same. Interestingly, not identical alignment and area.

Some brand also have this type of problem for LED projector too.

I am in to Asus P1 now but not yet available here.

Good luck,

Chai
