Dell M110 Quality Control Issues

All,

I just wanted to document my recent experience with the M110 projector. Hopefully somebody at Dell will see this and will actually be able to address the problem.

I have been looking a similarly sized projectors for sometime but none of them offered the lumens that I desired. Once I saw the M110 I decided to pull the trigger. I purchased the M110 projector from newegg.com and received the projector last Thursday. I opened the package to find out that it didn't ship with the power cord. It had the power block but the the cord from the block to the wall. I called Dell customer service and was directed from person to person with no body actually helping. Finally somebody told me that it was not Dell's responsibility since I purchased it from an authorized reseller. I asked them why the manual states that if any components are missing to call Dell. I was then told that the manual is for the individual who purchases from Dell not for the end user. So it this case the manual was for newegg.com not me!?!

I then called newegg.com's customer service and they were very helpful. They mentioned that they wouldn't have any power cords but that they would pay return shipping for my unit and they would over night ship a new one to me at no cost! I was impressed. The new one came on Monday and guess what... no power cord. This clearly is a quality control issue on Dell's part.

I called Dell again and talked to customer service reps from several departments and was on hold for over 4 hours, just to be told that they can not provide me with a power cord because I don't have a purchase number with Dell. I was even told that the power cord was an accessory that I needed to purchase seperately (even though the manual states that it should be included)! I'm thinking of returning the unit and just buying a competitors product.

Has anybody else had this issue?

I know when you buy from us the Universal AC 100-240 50-60Hz with 65W power adapter is included. Neweggs website even list it on their page. So why is newegg opening the box and removing cables? My advice is return it and buy directly from us so you get everything and a Dell Order number.

Both of my units came with the 65W power adapter but not the AC plug from the adapter to the wall. Newegg is not opening the box and removing the cables. They are being shipped from Dell without the cable. I know this because the package came in a newegg box and inside that box was a Dell box shipped directly from Dell with a Dell seal over the box stating "IF this seal is broken or the package is damaged; check contents before signing receipt". On both projectors the seal was NOT broken. It even has the FedEx shipping label from Dell and the dell order # and track code on the box. I think any logical person would conclude that Dell is shipping the unit without the cable as opposed to newegg removing the cable from the sealed package.

I just hate that Dell's only solution to this problem is to not buy from an authorized reseller, only buy directly from Dell. Especially since at the time of my purchase, Dell was more expensive and had $27 shipping vs. $2 from newegg for a 0.8 lb projector!

I saw this looking for reviews of competitors projectors: www.projectorcentral.com/part_opinions_details.cfm

I'm not the only one missing the cable. This individual purchased from buy.com

I bought from Dell on Cyber Monday and it came with all the parts. I have an unboxing video shown here:

A Del rep did contact me with regards to this posting set me a power cord. I was glad that I finally got some good customer service. I also purchased another one directly from Dell and it did come with the power cord. Oddly it was packaged differently then in your video. The power cord was in the case instead of in the brown box.

I'm sure there was probably only a small batch that got sent out without power cords from the manufacture.

Thanks for the video!

As the IT person who deals with all things Dell at my company, the warranties are hard to beat, but they are lacking in customer service...
